San Diego Super Chargers Light up Thursday Night Football in Awesome Color Rush Uniforms

The San Diego Chargers rescued a nail-biting victory from the jaws of a dominant display against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football, largely thanks to the "Look Good Play Good" factor.

The Bolts 2016 Color Rush Uniforms are undoubtedly some the most eye catching in the NFL.

Philip Rivers started the game in full Gunslinger mode and helped the Chargers take an early lead.

Rookie Tight End Hunter Henry had a great game. The Chargers caught the star studded Denver Broncos Defense off guard with multiple Tight Ends formations, to get Philip Rivers' new favorite target Hunter Henry and future Hall of Famer Antonio Gates on the field simultaneously.

Football aside, those Color Rush Uniforms though...
I can't think of any legitimate reason why the Chargers shouldn't be allowed to play in their Color Rush Uniforms every week.

And a Bolts Color Rush Jersey is definitely item number 1 on my Christmas List.

With 29 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter and the Redskins trailing by 8 points, Kirk Cousins threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Pierre Garcon and then went on to convert the 2 point conversion on a perfectly executed designed quarterback draw to take the game to overtime.
A huge play special teams play saw Brandon Banks return the ball to the Baltimore Ravens 24 yard line and the Redskins kicked the field goal to win the game 31-28.
Some fantastic games going on in the NFL this weekend.
Highlights include:
Chicago Bears vs Minnesota Vikings
Baltimore Ravens vs Washington Redskins

Without a doubt, the game of the week has to be:
Houston Texans vs New England Patriots on Monday Night Football
The Knights showcased some great talent and more than held their own against a strong Renegades team. The Reading University team, led by their new Head Coach Andy Hollands, are getting ready to launch an assault on a highly competitive Thames Valley Conference (TVC) in the British University American Football League (BUAFL).
The Knights first game is at their Home ground Bulmershe campus against the OBU Panthers on the 4th of November. See a complete list of the Reading Knights fixtures below:

This amazing comeback by the Denver Broncos and dismal second half performance from the San Diego Chargers inspired NFL.com analyst Adam Rank to write an article creatively entitled "Are the Chargers the worst team in the NFL?".

Find the article here: Adam Rank: Are the Chargers the Worst team in the NFL?

As a Chargers fan, I was very disappointed to see such a badly thought out article on the NFL.com website, for the simple reason that the Chargers record stands at 3-3. Whereas, the Oakland Raiders sit at 1-4 and the fact they have Carson Palmer at Quarterback undoubtedly makes them a contender for the worst team in the NFL.

Back in the preseason, Adam Rank predicted that the Kansas City Chiefs were a genuine Super Bowl contender. Week 6 in the NFL has come and gone and the Chiefs sit at 1-5 and with Brady Quinn at Quarterback it is difficult to see where their next win is going to come from. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have looked like one of the least potent offenses in the league, but they absolutely destroyed the Chiefs defense. Great prediction Adam Rank...

Some of the preseason favorites, the Green Bay Packers, the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots have started slowly which has opened the door for other teams who have come flying out of the blocks.
Running Back Arian Foster, Quarterback Matt Schaub and Wide Receiver Andre Johnson have led the Houston Texans to 4 straight wins and they appear to be unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball. Add to that one of the leagues toughest defenses and the Texans are looking to be an early contender for the Super Bowl title.
The Texans face a tough test against the New York Jets this week on Monday Night Football, but a victory which would take them to 5-0 would definitely start to turn some heads around the league.
Matt Ryan aka Matty Ice and the Atlanta Falcons have been tearing defenses apart with the speed of their new no huddle offense. The Atlanta Falcons can still run the ball with veteran Running Back Michael Turner, but their real strength so far in the 2012 - 2013 season has been in the passing game.
A super talented group of receivers including Julio Jones, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez and a clever no-huddle system has had the Falcons driving the length of the field and into the endzone in minutes. The Falcons are undefeated and nobody has been able to stop their no-huddle offense yet, if they continue to be unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball then they have to be one of the early favorites to go to the Super Bowl.
In week 5 the Falcons face off against a high powered Washington Redskins Offense led by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin the third aka RG3, this should be a high scoring encounter and a Falcons win would see them go to 5-0.ukamericanfootballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10482692678153872750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133501693623959474.post-38121034747317061082012-09-24T18:20:00.000+01:002012-09-24T18:20:26.067+01:00Who Dat who gon beat dem Saints? The Oakland Raiders who, under the leadership of Carson Palmer, had looked like one of the worst teams in the league through weeks 1 and 2 shocked the rest of the league by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers with a Janikowski field goal as time expired. The game featured a scary helmet to helmet hit on Raiders Wide Receiver Darrius Heyward Bey which left him unconscious and needing hospital treatment for a neck injury.
And the Tennessee Titans just managed to edge the Detroit Lions in Overtime, thanks to a very questionable (downright idiotic) call by Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz who elected to go for a QB Sneak on 4th down despite being in comfortable Field Goal range. This game was a real shootout and featured some amazing Special Teams plays by the Titans.

Philip Rivers is an elite quarterback and he is part of the reason why the experts always seem to predict that the Chargers are in with a chance of reaching the Super Bowl

Chargers fans will be all too familiar with the fact that around this time every year the talking heads on NFL.com start making early Super Bowl predictions. Furthermore, every year without fail a number of the same experts predict that the Chargers are in with a shot of making it to the Super Bowl. This year is no different, it has already begun...

Ryan Matthews is ready to take on more responsibility running the ball for the Chargers during the 2012-2013 season (Fantasy football players take note!)

It is easy to see why the Chargers are the experts choice for the dark horse to get to the Super Bowl every year. The Chargers have their franchise quarterback in Philip Rivers, a playmaking running back in Ryan Matthews, one of the best tight ends in the game in Antonio Gates, good depth at the wide receiver position and they have strengthened their defense.

Antonio Gates is one of the best tight ends in the NFL but he has been plagued by injury. For the Chargers to have a chance at making it to the Super Bowl they need all their key players to stay healthy throughout the regular season.

In previous seasons the Chargers have developed a bad habit of beating themselves which has prevented them from making progress into the postseason. In the 2010-2011 the Chargers let themselves down with incidents on Special Teams and last season Philip Rivers threw an uncharacteristic amount of interceptions which ended the team's hopes of progressing towards a Super Bowl. If San Diego are going to make it to the Super Bowl in the 2012-2013 season they will have to stop beating themselves.

The moment Peyton Manning signed with the Denver Broncos was bad news for Chargers fans

Finally, the Chargers chances of making it to the Super Bowl via winning the AFC West took a turn for the worse when Peyton Manning signed with the Denver Broncos. San Diego were always relatively successful at beating Manning when he played for the Indianapolis Colts, however, there is no doubt that the Denver Broncos are considerably more threatening with Peyton running the offense. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to remain fit and injury free throughout a gruelling regular season.
Wembley stadium will be packed with american football fans wearing Brady, Welker and Gronkowski jerseys and the Rams will have to do their best without the support of the crowd who will be walking down Wembley Way in anticipation of watching the Super Bowl runners up from the 2011-2012 season play in the UK.
UK american football fans will be excited to see Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady play at Wembley, but personally I love an underdog, and the Rams led by young Quarterback Sam Bradford will certainly be the underdog when they play the Patriots, so I will be cheering for them but I expect to be in the minority.
In my humble opinion, and I'm sure Patriots fans will strongly disagree which is fine, I find the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and WesWelker somewhat arrogant. When Brady completed a pass to Wes Welker for a 99 yard Touchdown last season you get the impression that the Patriots expected to score from their own 1 yard line.
Furthermore, the Patriots Quarterback (and face of Ugg boots for men or Man Uggs or Muggs) is a bit too much of a pretty boy for my liking, a bit too metrosexual. Brady is undoubtedly one of the best players ever to play his position, but he strikes me as the kind of guy who cares just as much about his hair and male grooming products as he does about his passer rating, which isn't cool...ukamericanfootballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10482692678153872750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133501693623959474.post-34178632446203118592012-06-22T23:29:00.001+01:002012-06-22T23:29:36.788+01:00B.A.L.R Inc release T-shirt designs (and hint at date for general sale!!)B.A.L.R Inc have released the latest in their 2012 range!

The Boise State Broncos are my favourite american college football (NCAA) team. At their home stadium they play on blue turf, nicknamed the Smurf Turf, which is pretty cool. A Boise State Broncos offensive coodinator recently said, not entirely accurately, that they don't really have an offensive philosophy they just run plays and they are amongst the best teams in the league at running trick plays.

Without a doubt the most important thing about trick plays, as is the case with any other offensive play in american football, is ball security. The offense would much rather take a sack or a tackle for a loss than turn the ball over.

Boise State Broncos Running Back Doug Martin was drafted this year by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will be looking to earn the starting role from Legarrette Blount

Another important point about trick plays is that all the best trick plays are simple. Plays don't have to be overly complicated in order to deceive the defense and the more simple a play the less things there are that can go wrong.

Circus or Hook and Ladder

The first play that the Broncos run in the youtube video above is called Circus but this play is more often referred to as the Hook and Ladder. The situation is 4th down with 18 yards to go for the first down. The play is very simple but very effective. The quarterback throws the ball to the outside receiver who catches the ball then pitches it to another receiver who is running a crossing route from the other side of the field. The corner moves to tackle the first receiver leaving the sideline wide open for the second receiver to run down the sideline and score the touchdown. Simples.

Half Back Pass or Running Back Pass

In the video, the Broncos run this play by motioning the Quarterback out to the receiver position, snapping the ball directly to the Running Back who pretends to run to the outside before throwing a pass to the Tight End who feigns run blocking before slipping into the endzone to catch the pass. This play can just as easily be run by feigning a toss play instead of motioning the quarterback out to receiver. Easy.

Statue of Liberty

(Not that Statue of Liberty)

This is my favourite of the three trick plays on this video because its probably the most simple play of the lot and yet it completely deceives the defense. The Quarterback (who is right handed) fakes a quick screen pass to the right, but keeps the ball in his left hand. The Running Back acts like he isn't interested because he isn't involved in the play, then takes the hand off from behind the Quarterback and runs to the left. The defense bites on the quick screen and the Running Back waltzes into the endzone for a touchdown. Nice...

Everyone loves Trick Plays, the only question that remains to be asked is why don't we see more of them in the NFL?!
But I'll save the answer to that question for another day...ukamericanfootballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10482692678153872750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133501693623959474.post-90658655868807936222012-06-20T14:31:00.003+01:002012-06-20T14:31:41.082+01:00What will Mike Tolbert do for the Carolina Panthers?

The Carolina Panthers have quietly acquired one of the best backfields in the NFL. Experienced Running Backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart now have one of the best Fullbacks in Mike Tolbert blocking for them. In short, the signing of the former San Diego Chargers Running Back in free agency was an absolute steal. The Chargers used Tolbert in the redzone to punch the ball into the endzone. Tolbert's abilities on the goalline will give the Panthers more options so they aren't relying entirely on Cam Newton to get the ball into the endzone.
The pieces are starting to fit together for the offense in Carolina. They got their franchise Quarterback in Cam Newton, the backfield is complete with the addition of Mike Tolbert and they have an experienced Tight End in Greg Olsen. Making American Football in the UK look awesome...

If you're an American Football player in the UK right now you should be pretty excited about this!
B.A.L.R Inc. are producing a range of clothing for American Football teams in the UK and their designs look amazing.
Personally, I can not wait to get my hands on some of their gear...
This is great for American Football in the UK to have such good quality clothing available to the players and it is a great way of promoting the BAFANL and the BUAFL.
Furthermore, if the players play as good as they look then the standard of American Football in the UK is about to get a whole lot better!
What a fantastic idea for a small business and the best of luck for the future to all the guys at B.A.L.R Inc, Michael Hollands, Rory Alexander and James Perrineau.
And a polite request to make your products available to buy soon because we want them now! (Cheers in advance)
Remember the Titans starring Denzel Washington is a simply outstanding film. It tells the true story of the integration of black and white pupils into T.C. Williams High School in Virginia. Washington is superb and the soundtrack is pure class. Remember the Titans is a lot more than just another football film and a film that anyone will enjoy. A powerful and moving film, arguably the best American Football film ever.

2. The Blind Side

The Blind Side is the true story of Michael Oher, now a starting Offensive Tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. It is a fantastic film following the journey of Michael Oher from living on the streets to living in the suburbs with his carer Sandra Bullock. Some of the football scenes in this film are brilliant but this is another film that anyone can enjoy, not just football fans.

3. Friday Night Lights

This film is a hard hitting drama about a small town where football is life and life is football. The town is consumed by football and its citizens will accept nothing else other than a state championship. The film looks at the experience of a group of young men who know that their senior season playing high school football could be the highlight of their lives. Some try to escape the town whilst others simply accept their fate. The soundtrack by Explosions in the Sky perfectly compliments the dramatic style of the movie. Friday Night Lights is a must watch film for any American Football fan.

4. Gridiron Gang

Gridiron Gang is a great movie, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Xzibit, telling the true story of a prison for young men in gangs that starts a football programme in order to teach the prisoners the values of discipline and teamwork. The story of Gridiron Gang is a dramatic one and the football scenes in the film are excellent. A great American Football film.

5. We Are Marshall

It seems that all the best American Football films are based on true stories and We Are Marshall is no exception. The film The film begins with a plane crash in which the entire Marshall University football team including most of the players, coaches and staff die. The movie is the story of attempts to rebuild the football programme at Marshall University and the healing of a town that has lost fathers, husbands, sons, friends and teammates in a tragic accident. The film is very moving but there is also plenty of football content as the team is forced to adjust the style of their offense to accommodate for their weaknesses. We Are Marshall is highly recommended for any football fan.

6. The Longest Yard

The Longest Yard is a lot funnier than any of the other American Football films on this list, partly due to the fact that it stars Adam Sandles and Chris Rock. The Longest Yard is a remake, however, in my opinion the remake is better than the original although I'm sure plenty would disagree with that. In the film the prisoners, led by ex-NFL Quarterback Adam Sandler, are asked to put together a football team in order to play the prison guards. Predictably, chaos ensues and the football scenes in the game between the guards and the prisoners that the whole film leads up to are class. The Longest Yard is a good bit of football based light entertainment.

And finally...
The Most Overrated American Football Movie Ever:

Any Given Sunday

Any Given Sunday has the more big names than any other film on this list including Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, however, the big names do not rescue this film. It is dreadful and personally I would not recommend that anyone watches is because they will be disappointed. None of the characters are remotely likeable and the storyline is rubbish. I sat through the whole of this film, and its a long film, waiting for it to pick up and it never did. Without a doubt Any Given Sunday is the most overrated American Football film ever.ukamericanfootballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10482692678153872750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133501693623959474.post-70036571872000183832012-06-19T19:11:00.000+01:002012-06-19T19:11:02.581+01:00The Meanest, Scariest and the Downright Nastiest Players in the NFL

So here we go, in no particular order, the players who strike the most fear into their opponents on the football field. The Good, the Bad and the just plain Ugly:

1. Justin Tuck - New York Giants - The Predator Facemask

Justin Tuck's new facemask for the 2012-2013 season was inspired by old school trains and this guy hits like a train as well. The titanium facemask is specially designed by Schutt for Justin Tuck and nobody else in the NFL has one like it, although he is concerned that it won't be long before someone copies it because the NFL is a copycat league. Tuck says he was sick of people grabbing his facemask so the tightly knit mesh design is to prevent people from doing exactly that. The facemask and the visor combined makes Justin Tuck one of the scariest looking players in the NFL.

2. James Harrison - Pittsburgh Steelers - The Big Hitter

James Harrison doesn't do a lot of talking. He lets his football and specifically his hitting do the talking for him. He is arguably one of the hardest hitters in the NFL. If you need evidence of this then type "James Harrison hit on Colt McCoy" into Youtube or follow the link below:
James Harrison Hit on Colt McCoy
James Harrison has been accused of being a dirty player, and to be honest he probably is, but it all adds to the reputation he has for being one of the meanest players in the NFL.

3. Andre Johnson - Houston Texans - The Fighter

Over to the offensive side of the ball to another bad man who doesn't say much. The former Tennessee Titans and now Saint Louis Rams Cornerback Cortland Finnegan is notorious for being able to wind people up and get under their skin. As the image above shows, Finnegan got more than he bargained for when he decided to wind up Andre Johnson. Johnson tore Finnegan's helmet off before delivering a nasty punch to the head.

4. Clay Matthews - Green Bay Packers - The Animal

Clay Matthews with his very long hair looks uncannily like one of the Uruk Hai from Lord of the Rings which straight away justifies his place on this list of the scariest players in the NFL. In fact I would go as far as to say that he looks More like a genetically modified Orc than he does a human adult male. His physical capabilities also resemble that of the Uruk Hai in that he has arms the size of tree trunks, he is freakishly strong and stupidly fast for a man of his size.

Clay Matthews having just got out of the shower or Uruk Hai having just been born from a mud pit? I really can't tell the difference.

5. Ray Lewis - Baltimore Ravens - The Competitor
Ray Lewis stars in the trailer for the upcoming Madden NFL 13 game in which he gives one of his trademark motivational speeches. Ray Lewis is so good at motivational speaking that he could probably inspire the Surrey Stingers to a BUAFL National Championship (UK American Football joke). Ray Lewis is a born competitor and at the age of 37 he should be enjoying his retirement from American Football, but instead he continues to put his body on the line for his team and he is still putting in some monster hits in the process...
He delivers "a different level of punishment".
And he has his own official website which is pretty cool:
The title isn't the most catchy, but it really tells you all you need to know about Brian Cushing. I don't think its unfair to say that the guy has got problems. NFL.com have a fantastic feature called Sound FX where certain players wear microphones during the game. By far the greatest episode of Sound FX was the one featuring Brian Cushing. To watch this episode courtesy of NFL.com follow the link below, it is highly recommended.

Probably the scariest thing about Brian Cushing is the fact that he seems mentally unstable and you never know what he is going to do, however, the second scariest thing is his athletic ability. He is big, he is tough and he is fast and he is capable of knocking guys a lot bigger than him (there aren't many) flat on their backs.

Suh has one of the hardest first names to spell in the NFL, fact. Suh is also a dirty player, fact. Suh's reputation as a dirty player was already growing and that was before the infamous Stomp where he deliberately stood on a Green Bay Packers offensive lineman. Some of the players on this list are good, others are bad, some are really bad but Suh definitely falls into the final category of downright ugly. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented young defensive linemen in the league, however, he ruins it by also being one of the stupidest defensive linemen in the league. The 2012-2013 season will be a make or break year for Suh and only time will tell whether he has matured into a great football player instead of simply being a dirty football player.ukamericanfootballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10482692678153872750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133501693623959474.post-60106029719219851252012-06-19T16:05:00.001+01:002012-06-19T20:54:54.701+01:00BAFANL - Division 1 Central and South Heating Up

The contest for Division 1 Central and South is really heating up with a 3 way tie for the lead between Sussex Thunder, Berkshire Renegades and the East Kent Mavericks. Division 1 Central and South is shaping up to be the closest fought division in the league. In their first season in Division 1 the Berkshire Renegades are turning more than a few heads with their 5-1 record including victories against the Hampshire Thrashers, Cambridgeshire Cats, South Wales Warriors and Kent Exiles.
The one game the Renegades have lost so far was a close fought contest away to the East Kent Mavericks 25-35.
The biggest test for the Renegades so far will come this weekend, on Sunday the 24th of June the Berkshire Renegades face off against preseason division favourites Sussex Thunder who are also currently 5-1.
If they get the result they want this weekend the Renegades will give themselves a great chance of some postseason football this year. Could the Renegades become the Fairytale team of the BAFANL by winning Division 1 Central and South in their first season in the division?
If they win on Sunday they will certainly be in a great position to do so!ukamericanfootballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10482692678153872750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1133501693623959474.post-7001564946356707822012-06-18T20:23:00.005+01:002012-06-18T23:21:59.870+01:00LT signs one day contract with the Chargers and officially retires

The San Diego Chargers legendary Running Back Ladanian Tomlinson has retired from football.
At the end of his career LT ranked fifth in all time rushing yards with 13,684 yards, and third in all time touchdowns with 162.
Tomlinson said "I feel like I'm graduating... I'm healthy, I'm happy with a great family and I'm excited to now be a fan and watch you guys (the Chargers) play".
San Diego Chargers President Dean Spanos also hinted during LT's retirement press conference that his #21 jersey would be retired.
LT

Ladanian Tomlinson, known as LT, will officially announce his retirement from football later today.
LT is my favourite American Football player, he single handedly made me fall in love with the sport of American Football, with the San Diego Chargers and inspired me to pull on a helmet and shoulderpads and give it a go. I was lucky enough to see LT rush for over 100 yards and score a touchdown when the San Diego Chargers played the New Orleans Saints at Wembley Stadium in 2008 which was a great moment.

LT was famous for his entertaining and electrifying running style, the dark visor that he wore on his helmet and the number 21. I expect the San Diego Chargers will retire his jersey when LT retires, meaning that nobody else who plays for the Chargers will ever wear number 21 again. This is a rare gesture and is reserved for only the great players. LT was known as a "finesse" style Running Back, but that didn't stop him from shrugging off defensive lineman, or trucking linebackers, or stiff arming defensive backs...

It is a fitting gesture that Ladanian Tomlinson will sign a ceremonial contract and retire with the Chargers, the franchise who drafted him with the 5th pick in the 2001 draft. LT had a relatively long career for a Running Back in the NFL, he did great things for the San Diego Chargers franchise and the list of NFL records he holds is seemingly endless, including the all time NFL record for single season rushing touchdowns with 28.
